The glorious retreat of the Petrograd Militia - or how it all want wrong

Av totte | 29 december, 2012 | 0 kommentarer

Something moved behind the wrecked truck. Something yellow. It can´t have been one of the dregs of the Pripyat Piranhs. Not even them are stupid enough to wear yellow into battle! Kapitan saw his target. An old truck raised onto pallets to enable repairs to be made. He thaught there ought to be at least four, maybe eight working sparkplugs under the hood. Jack pot!

The Piranhs had made camp among some shipping containers and hade dragged their old camper caravans closer to the fires. It was quite homey when they first noticed the militiamen approaching.

Baba, armed with his trusty double barreled shotgun advanced on the outlaws. He took cover behind an old diggers tracks as he spotted the glow from an flamethrowers igniter. This had escalated a bit more quickly then he liked. As his mind wandered about how the world had come to this he was shot by some other anonymous dreg hiding in the shadows. His last thought, before he passed out, was about hoe he had gotten into this mess.

Giant mushrooms thrived in the humid marches and a raider used them in order to stay hidden while he took aim and fired at Lajka, the RPG armed militiaman. Lajka dove in behind a container, into cover. Peeping around the corner he spotted his assailant and took aim. He made sure Slavica, his mate, wasn´t behind him as he fired.
A loud boom,
A trail of smoke,
An explosion in the far distant.

The rocket had vered to the left and missed the target entirely. Lajka knew that the noice and smoke would draw attention to him in a not so appreciated way. Soon the bullets started to whine around him. He ducked into cover and reloaded.
Meanwhile men of the Pripyat Piranhs advanced and took up positions. Baba was down and soon the new recruit had a full load of buckshot applied to his face and abdomen and was out. Kapitan had not excpected him to accomplish anything but during the time the boy failed to fire his pistol, failed to reload it and finally failed to hit anything Kapitan had the opportunity to gun down one man and search for the sparkplugs. Unfortunately neither the truck nor the repair kit contained any. Morale sunk through his fur boots and he ordered retreat. A new plan had to be deviced and two men had to tend their wounds. This day would not be mentioned again. Ever.

The Zone - The rural marches in the outback of Petrograd

Av totte postad i Battle report | 13 december, 2012 | 0 kommentarer

The Petrograd militia carefully walked along the abandoned cars and trucks on the highway. Their mission was to explore the cars in order to find working spark plugs. their old patrol vehicle had broken down a week earlier and the party leaders could not accept that.

I´ve been working on a rural terrain set for some games out in the radiated zone. recently my militia men routed some thugs who hung out by the old library. i suspect that they have rallied and will seek to avenge their lost honour. Tomorrow the lines will be drawn and scores settled..

pictures and a write-up of the battle is soon to come.

And stay away! - Pripyat Piranhs gets driven off by the Petrograd Militia

Av totte postad i Battle report | 25 november, 2012 | 2 kommentarer

I had a game of Brink of Battle today. A friend of mine and I have been making terrain for a post-apocalyptic skirmish game we wanted to try out and today we got our first game in. the terrain is not entierly finished but will be soon. The scenario was a supply retrieval and the supplies was represented by sculpture, a busted robot of some sort and a toolbox, brimming with tools in working condition. when a character gets up to a supply counter a dice roll will decide wether it is a valuable supply or wether it something worthless. the first objective to be reached was smashed robot but it at close range it was obvious the it wasn't a robot at all but a cheap masquerade costume of silvery cloth and plastic. the gain of the discovery was not worth its price as Kapitan, the leader of the Militia cut the looter down with his AK-47.

The second objective to be found was found out to be a knock off copy of an sculpture. Worthless and maddening. The leader of the Pirahns bolted over to the toolbox. Talking cover behind and old wreck of a car he grabbed the tools and started to run back home but soon he saw his old friend, bleeding in the ruins and his fighting spirit broke and he ran. The rest of the gang followed suit and left the ruins for home. The Militia had won the day.

Enjoy!

The real-estate of Petrograd - Post apocalyptic NeoSoviet Russia

Av totte postad i wargames terrain | 17 november, 2012 | 0 kommentarer

The ruins of Petrograd are decorated by the local youths. armed with spray cans they get busy beautifying cityscape. The old, pre-civil war, graffiti has to make way for the new memes and tags.

The first picture is a word puzzle and I have absolutely no idea what it means. I used it as a reference in order to get a proper russian feel in my miniature street art.

My version of the original. I really like how it turned out.

The Simpsons were created in ´89 is one of the examples of the cultural seepage from the western countries, unravaged by civil war.

juvenile graffiti is always fascinating and this piece is inspired by my work place where a sixth grader drew such an anatomical study on the school door.

more is to come..

The Petrograd militia is the only line of defence against all the horrors of post apocalyptic city of Petrograd. Rumours says that a new group of self acclaimed saviors have arrived to the burned out husk central Petrograd. Smoke rises from the old library but there are no substantial news yet..

..someone said something about Pripyat poodles..

Tank traps for Dust Warfare and post apocalyptic wargaming

Av totte postad i wargames terrain | 2 september, 2012 | 0 kommentarer

I got two boxes of the first Dust tacis starter set and they contain two tank traps each. I gave them a very quick paint job but i think they turned out. I basecoated them with Army painters uniform grey spray primer. then I dusted them lightly with white car primer. A quick wash of black paint and water and a few quick higlights and they were almos done. I added the rubar to the top of the tank traps. They are made from wire and inserted into two drilled holes in each. They got a brown paint job with a splach of orange for that lovely rust effect.

enjoy!

A teaser of what i'm working on

Av totte | 29 augusti, 2012 | 0 kommentarer

Posts have been few and far between. Seriously few and seriously well scattered. Why? I have had some computer issues and some blog issues. My computer burned out wich gave me the opportunity to downgrade my hard ware to a crappy machine headed for the recycling bin. Added to that was the problem of my hosting server being down. Now it‘s back up and i have a “few” thing i’ve been working on.

Fifty two years after the war ended life hade reclaimed Petrograd. The concrete was cracked by the power of life. Trees grew up through the cracks and gave the city a whole new look. This my attempt at building a post apocalyptic gameboard. The setting is that of what happened when a few generations had been raised nowing nothing of Petrograd before the war that had started in 1982. With billie jean and sexual heling on the radios the bombs started to fall and peopletook shelter where ever they could find it. The ruins above and below ground is being built in 28mm. The plan is to use it for Brink of Battle games with my newly painted Lead Adventure miniatures post apocalyptic minis. Good times will be had!

What else? Africa in 20mm? Polish armoured company of 1939? A bunch of more flames of war companies? I have been busy and posts are on the way.

To deflower something beautiful – or the unboxing of the flower knight

Av totte | 21 juli, 2012 | 3 kommentarer

The Flower Knight by Kingdom Death is one of the most beautiful miniatures released in the recent years. It rivals The green knight by Games Workshop and many more.
My words are not very good at describing such a thing so I´ll let the pictures speak for them self.
Enjoy!

Northern African buildings for Flames of War or Ambush Alley

Av totte postad i wargames terrain | 17 februari, 2012 | 0 kommentarer

Me and a friend made a set of buildings in order to cast them in plaster. We wanted to do this in order to make cheap, great looking buildings available to any one who wants them. we sell them at the price of making them. If You want a set of these let me know and we can have a look at what the price of postage would be. We charge $30 for the complete set of six building and four sets of stairs. the small outbuildings in the pictures didn't cast very well so if you want one of each then i´ll add it for free but you will have to replace the roof. I used a piece of card cut to shape. The models take paint very well and the plaster is of the same hardness as dental plaster and that is VERY hard. In order t make th models as modular as possible we made the stairs seperat. Every set comes with four stairs, two right ones and two left ones. You have to remove a small peice of the wall to make an entrance too the roof but that is very easily done with a file or a saw blade. I used the latter.

enjoy!
